2.19.2011 I Know That My Redeemer Lives!

Feb 18

It’s time for the weekend edition: Exodus 2, Luke 5, Job 19, and 1 Corinth 6
“I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” is one of my favorite hymns. What’s weird is where these words come from in Job19. This guy Job has lost it all (except for God) and his friends blame him. They figure he has some secret sin that God is punishing. In this chapter Job talks about how he feels beaten down by his friends and even God. What’s weird is that he doesn’t give up on God and somehow believes that God will rescue him. Pretty huge faith in the face of overwhelming loss and pain! And I think I have it good. I think life is dumping on me when the TV goes out or there’s nothing on. Time to read more Job and how God is truly in charge!

But God!!! 2.4.2011

Friday is here and so is the reading: Gen 37, Mark 7, Job 3, and Romans 7!

Oh man, Job and his buddies had it right – for a little while. The bad things happened and they were silent. They did not whine. When Job’s wife (a really encourager) tells Job to curse God and die he asks her whether he should take only the good from God and not the bad? All of this is in Job 2 – there is a right attitude that all in life is not flowers and butterflies. Bad things happen – even to the nicest of people. The deal is that God is in control. In today’s reading, frustration seems to get the best of him. How quickly things can turn. I think its because the focus goes off of God and onto us. With God I will find an endless source of all that is good – with me I find emptiness and despair. How has God helped you in the past? How is God helping you now? Does this section inspire you or drag you down?
