2.23.2012 – When God Shows Up!

Feb 23

Ashes to Fire day 2 – Psalm 37, Habakkuk 3:1-18, Philippians 3:12-21, and John 17:1-18.

Paul calls us to press on – to keep serving God no matter what. His truth is that we are citizens of heaven and that makes a difference in how we live. This gets right to the question that Ashes to Fire seeks to address. What happens when the Almighty creator of all steps into our everyday existence? What would you love to see happen in your life? What do you want more of or less of?

Happy Valentines Day everyone!  Day 45!  Exodus 14 and Matthew 15:1-20!

Ok, so its Valentines Day – its all about love.  So, where’s the love in God crushing the army of Egypt?  Actually, God is showing a great deal of love for His people.  Yeah, but what if you are on the Egyptians side?  Doesn’t look so good there, does it?  Not really.  But that’s the point: you wanna be on Gods side.  God is the one who is in control – He wins – get it?

You know what I need right now – Bible Readings – yup!  and here they are now: 2 Kings 8, 1 Timothy 5, Daniel 12, and Psalm 56-57!

In 1 Timothy 5, Paul has some good advice for how believers in Jesus should treat each other.  Verse one call us not to “NOT rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.” Paul is counting on us to use best versions of how we treat these family members. The point is that we are family as Gods people.  Its a great idea  – but a tough one to live out.

We want to be honored and respected – but we don’t want to have to honor and respect others.  What if we did all that Paul talks about?  What would our churches look like?  What would our homes look like?  What would our lives look like?  What do you think?
