9.26.2011 – Playing it safe?

Don’t I know you?  Oh yeah, you’re the one who reads the Bible! 2 Samuel 22, Galatians 2, Ezekiel 29, and Psalm 15-16.

Is Peter (Cephas) playing it safe or compromising in Galatians?  Either way, Paul goes after Peter because he is going back to old ways in this section.  You see, God had shown Peter the freedom we have in Jesus and now Peter seems to be going back to keeping the rules.  Our faith in Jesus is in Jesus – not in rules or traditions.  What does your faith trust in?  What happens when you are around people who want to drag you back to your old life?

3.6.2011 Love Compels US!

Mar 06

Four out of Five Dentists surveyed recommend today’s readings: Exodus 17, Luke 20, Job 35, 2 Cor. 5!

What compels you? Weird question huh? I mean the whole compelling thing; what’s up with that? We aren’t compelled by anything – are we? Roll the online dictionary meaning. Fresh from the freeonlinedictionary.com: To force, drive, or constrain. Force? Drive? We are never forced to but something we don’t need – never! We are never driven to beat someone when we get really competitive? Not us! We are never constrained to want the new ipad or XBox? We are free – we call our own shots, thank you very much!

Actually, we are more enslaved to what we want than we will ever admit and that is why Jesus came. He came to free us and to reconcile us to God. Jesus came and died so that God’s Love would be what drives us. What is driving you? What are you living for?

2.23.2011 I Complain?

Feb 22

Yes, we do have Bible Readings – right this way… Exodus 6, Luke 9, Job 23, 1 Corinth 10
I admit it ok? Alright, Alright I complain! There, I said it, happy now? All this and I have to admit … that… I co..m..pla…in. Oh, I see where this is going!
I know cheap attempt at humor – but you get the point. We all complain – maybe not out loud, but we do. And we think we are right. Just look at the guys in our readings. The people don’t listen to Moses, Job has a hard time seeing God, and Paul is talking about people dying because of their grumbling (biblical form of complaining). So there is lots to complain about. No argument there. What do we do with our complaints? That’s the issue. All these guys would steer us towards trusting in God. He hears our complaints and forgives us. How can you relate to the guys in our readings? What’s your gripe!
